Mike Crenshaw, Malcolm Hoover and Tom Tegner come from different places, among the many ways they are connected are a love of motorcycles, other human beings and a hatred for racism. Crenshaw, Shabazz and the Homie Tom are three middle aged rabble rousing mfs who aim to challenge the status quo when it comes to talking about the issues that face our nation and world. They hope, through sharing their experiences and encounters along the road to also share tools with other people who want to have these same conversations in their own lives and circles.
Mic Crenshaw was born and raised in Chicago and Minneapolis and currently resides in Portland Oregon.
Crenshaw is an independent Hip Hop artist, respected emcee, poet, educator and activist.
Crenshaw is the Lead U.S. Organizer for the African HipHop Caravan and uses Cultural Activism as a means to develop international solidarity related to Human Rights and Justice through Hip Hop and Popular Education.
In his teenage years, Crenshaw actively confronted white supremacist gangs that were a growing part of the hard-core music scene. Mic eventually moved to Portland, where he quickly became one of the most respected artists in the Northwest, and his community efforts have had both local and international impact. In addition to his highly-acclaimed work in spoken work and Hip Hop, Mic co-founded GlobalFam, a non-profit (EducationWithOut Borders 501c3) project to create and maintain a computer center for disadvantaged youth in Burundi, Central Africa. Over 400 people have received free training, and it is now expanding, generating revenue and creating jobs. Mic also partnered with Education WithOut Borders (EWOB), which supports education, music and art initiatives in Portland and beyond and serves as an umbrella for the local Books For Prisoners chapter and GlobalFam itself.
Malcolm Hoover is a father, grandfather, and third generation community organizer. He is the co-founder and co-director of Black Futures Farms, in SE Portland and Black Food Sovereignty Coalition. Malcolm holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology from University of California Santa Cruz.
Malcolm grew up bi-coastal between unceded Ohlone and Lenai Lenape lands, East Palo Alto, CA and Philadelphia, PA. His many jobs have included: assembly line worker making Doppler radar rigs, journalist, tech writer, High School and Elementary School teacher, counselor, US Navy Weatherman, video game tester, and book peddler.
Malcolm’s first book, “144 Poems and Essays for God, Love, Truth, Justice, Peace and Hip Hop,” was published in 2015 by Tayen Lane Press and he is currently working on “Love Poems for War Times: A Practical Handbook for Community Organizing”
Tom Tegner born and raised in Portland Oregon a Father of 2, and a small business owner.
Tom Has spent the last 35 years as an anti-racist activist through S.H.A.R.P (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice), The Portland Chapter of The Baldies and A.R.A (Anti Racist Action). For the Last 26 years Tom has been training and competing in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and is currently a second degree BJJ Black belt. Tom spent his early years skateboarding and listening to punk rock in Portland Oregon. In Toms late teens and through his 20’s Tom began confronting and fighting the white supremacist gangs that took root in the punk rock scenes in Portland, Reno, and Sacramento. During that time Tom was introduced to vintage 2-stroke Vespas and Lambretta’s which started his love for anything with 2 wheels. Eventually Tom got his first motorcycle a CB750, then some British bikes and eventually a Harley was added to the collection of scooters & motorcycles. Besides the fun of riding motorcycles, it was the friendship’s, family, and comradery built along the way with other motorcyclists that really hooked him on motorcycling.
